JUPITER, Fla. - Hurricane Cristobal will not have a direct impact on Florida, but strong winds will have an effect on the surf the next few days.
Swimmers and surfers should use extreme caution Tuesday because of an elevated risk for rip currents.
Large waves that we are seeing on the coast are not directly from Cristobal but from windy conditions created from a difference in pressure occurring between Florida and the hurricane.
You can expect to see the biggest waves in Sebastian or the Treasure Coast. The farther north of the Bahamas you go, the bigger the waves.
If you are going to surf, keep in front of a lifeguard station where they can see you. Also, you are advised not to surf alone.
