JUNO BEACH, Fla. - If you live in the northern part of Palm Beach County, you've probably noticed a lot of smoke.
Palm Beach County Environmental Resources Management is conducting a controlled burn at the Juno Dunes Natural Area.
The Juno Dunes Natural Area is 569 acres and located at 14200 South U.S. Highway 1, Juno Beach.
Environmental officials say that prescribed burns are required to sustain the fire-adapted vegetation communities on the natural areas and to reduce onsite fuel loads to prevent the occurrence of catastrophic wildfires.
The Environmental Resources Management website says that burning methods used include ignition and containment by ground crews and aerial ignition with containment by ground crews (for larger sites where burn units are more than several hundred acres each).
