JUNO BEACH, Fla. -- Nearly 100 people gathered in Juno Beach Thursday morning to watch two turtles get released back into the sea.
The reptiles had been recuperating at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center for more than a year.
Scientists said they were part of a group of 15 that had been rescued near Cape Cod when the water became cold.
Experts said the turtles were treated for hypothermia.
Dr. Charles Manire, with Loggerhead Marinelife Center, said releasing them back into the ocean helps the population.
"Every effort we make here is designed to help the populations in the wild. So we want to treat as many of these turtles as we can, return them to the wild so they can contribute to the population, which is listed as threatened right now," said Dr. Manire.
Staff members said more turtles will be released in about three weeks.
