LAKE PARK, Fla. - 42-Year-Old Dane Wayne Coley has died after being shot at a child's birthday party Saturday night.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says Coley died Sunday morning after being shot in the head outside of a home in Lake Park.
The host of the party, Tara Glee, said he had just stepped out of the party to smoke a cigarette in the car port, where they thought he was alone.
She says someone must have walked onto her property to shoot him.
Meanwhile, she says just family was inside, including about ten other children.
"We heard a pop, and we thought it was the kids that dropped something," said Glee.
She stopped the party to tend to Coley. "He was up and trying to breathe and stuff."
Glee says it's hard to imagine why someone would want to shoot Coley. She said he had moved to the area from Jamaica less than two years ago, and had only been to her house three times.
"You shot the wrong person. I don't know who you're looking for. I don't know why you came in my yard," Glee said.
Glee says Coley hasn't lived in the area long enough to make enemies. She says no one on her street would know who he is.
"Sad situation, you know. Dane didn't bother anybody. All my kids love him, he was real sweet."
Now hoping for information and answers, as she's confident Coley took someone else's bullet.
Glee said Coley also just started a new job.
The sheriff's office is still looking into a motive and suspects.
