Turnpike reopens in Martin Co. after dump truck hits beam on Kanner Highway Bridge

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol has reopened the Florida Turnpike at mile marker 130 after a dump truck hit a beam on the Kanner Highway Bridge.

The dump truck was driving southbound with its bed up when the incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m., the Martin County Sheriff's Office says.

The impact took out a chunk of the bridge and knocked the bed off the truck.

There were no injuries but the Florida Department of Transportation was concerned about the safety of the bridge.

Southbound turnpike drivers had been rerouted to Interstate 95 via the Martin Downs Boulevard exit.

One lane of Kanner Highway will remain closed overnight.

The driver was cited for careless driving.
