The Salvation Army gives away 400 backpacks for student in need in Martin County

Distributed to children in grades K-12

STUART, Fla. - The Salvation Army is doing it's part to make sure students are ready for the start of the school year.

Monday morning, the Salvation Army distributed 400 backpacks to underprivileged children in the Martin County area.

Each backpack was stuffed with a variety of school supplies, including crayons, colored pencils, folders, lined paper and much more. Most also included supplies teachers need for classrooms each year, like tissues. The backpacks were distributed to children in grades K-12.

"It's great to see the kids walk out they've already got the backpacks on their backs and they're smiling from ear to ear, ready to go to school.' says Lt. Andrea Hoover, a Salvation Army Officer.

All the of supplies were donated by members of the community, many of whom also gave their time to ensure that the children receiving these packs have a successful start this upcoming school year.
