"I wasn't panicked when I got there. I knew what I was doing. Didn't feel any fear," said Annase.
It turns out the instructor, Walter Jschombach, whom the students know as "Sarge", was also Ian's track coach for a short time this spring.
"He definitely gets the most out of his athletes. He pushes you pretty hard," said Annase who threw the discus and shot put.
Annase got the rhythm of cardiopulmonary resuscitation not from his electronic turntables but from a CPR class he took with the Red Cross as part of his lifeguard training. Annase will be a lifeguard again this summer at Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Stuart.
"I never thought I would actually have to use it. I couldn't believe it was me who was right there," said Annase.
