STUART, Fla. - A pedestrian was killed and another was seriously injured Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle at the south end of the Roosevelt Bridge, said Stuart police.
At 7:41 p.m., officers received reports of two individuals lying in the road at the intersection of SW US Highway 1 and Joan Jefferson Way, according to Stuart police spokesman Officer Brian Bossio.
Officers discovered a man and a woman near the crosswalk on US 1. There was a vehicle at the scene that appeared to have struck the pedestrians.
The vehicle had significant damage to the windshield. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation.
The woman was transported to Martin Memorial Medical Center North but later pronounced dead.
The man was transported by medical helicopter to Lawnwood Medical Center in Fort Pierce. He suffered serious injuries and is in critical condition.
