No word on search for man who went missing in water near Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart

STUART, Fla. - STUART — As of 9 p.m. Sunday, Martin County Sheriff's Office officials said they had no word from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission about its search for an unidentified 60-year-old man who went missing from a boat near the Roosevelt Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

The search, by state and county sheriff's officials, resumed Sunday morning after being called off Saturday night. Officers from the Martin County Sheriff's Office assisted the commission throughout the day in its search.

The victim, who hasn't been identified, was last seen near the Roosevelt Bridge and the Sunset Bay Marina, said Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Carli Segelson said early Sunday.

Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission officials could not be reached for comment Sunday afternoon and evening.

Emergency crews were first called in at 4:41 p.m. Saturday and the search continued until shortly before 8 p.m., when visibility was reduced and the currents were strong. Sonar equipment and a helicopter were used in the attempts to find the missing man.
