STUART, Fla. - Students returned to class on the Treasure Coast Monday morning.
In Stuart at Pinewood Elementary, school officials opened the gates early, around 5:00am to prepare for the first day of school.
New Martin County Superintendent, Laurie Gaylord, said teachers prepared all summer long by taking leadership courses.
Gaylord said she's also excited about the district's new technology initiative they plan to roll out for students.
"We have some pilot programs coming up with some technology, digital technology for our students, we're really excited about to roll out. We've got a pilot program for second graders and also high school with digital devices so we're really excited to roll that out," said Superintendent Gaylord.
The Superintendent jumped into action on her first day welcoming students back at Hobe Sound Elementary and Murray Middle school this morning.
Deputies patrolled school zones as back to school traffic came to a stand still at some locations.
