Child has severe burns

STUART — A toddler with severe scalding was flown to a Miami burn center on Sunday morning, according to emergency agencies.

Emergency crews responded about 9:30 a.m. to the incident in the 1200 block of Southeast Federal Highway in Stuart, said Stuart Fire Rescue spokesman Frank Lasaga.

The child was burned by a scalding cup of coffee, said Stuart police spokesman Officer Brian Bossio, who called the burning an accident.

The toddler was taken to a child burn unit as a precaution, Bossio said.

The child’s condition was not immediately available.

The story will be updated when more information is released.
