Stuart Fire Rescue crews are putting off the investigation into a Stuart shoe store fire because of safety concerns.

Firefighters estimate the damage caused by a fire at Nobile Shoes on Wednesday to be around $1 million.

According to City of Stuart Fire Marshal Frank Lasaga, the building has been deemed unsafe. Lasaga says the roof and several portions of the walls could collapse at any time, so no one from the fire department can go inside.

"Those structural members could collapse at any point, so it's not safe for anybody to be in there," Lasaga says. "Right now the damage has been done and we don't need to add to the problem by having anybody get hurt."

The fire department plans to call in a demolition crew on Friday after building a makeshift fence around the building. Once all unsafe parts of the building have been knocked down and it's been deemed safe, the fire investigation will begin.

Until the building is deemed safe, crews are watching the building at all times to make sure no one goes inside.
