Search continues for missing father and son, sheriff is not ruling out anything

STUART, Fla. - The search continues for a missing father and son in Martin County.

According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, deputies are looking for Kevin Bamper and his son James.

Detectives found a body on Monday in the Indian River Lagoon and the sheriff says he believes it is either James or Kevin, but won't know for sure until DNA or dental records are checked.

"Right now we can't rule out anything," Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said.

Detectives say the father and son were last seen by family members on Tuesday of last week.

"When the father and son left home that day they didn't tell anyone where they were going," Sheriff Snyder said.

Detectives say they don't believe foul play is involved, but they can't be sure.

"One of our theories is this could be a double accidental drowning. Perhaps one of them got in trouble in the water and the other came to rescue him and they both drowned," Snyder said.

Neighbor NIcky Hicks says she just saw the duo last week.

"They were in and out all the time whether it be on a boat or out front working on their trucks," Hicks said.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about the father or son or anyone who may have found fishing equipment in the area of Bathtub Beach to call 772-220-7000.
