Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Stuart will reopen Saturday, say county officials

Martin County parents with children on spring break may have to wait for warmer weather to take them to the local waterpark.

For the fourth day in a row, Sailfish Splash Waterpark in Stuart has been closed because of low water temperature and wind conditions.

Martin County Parks and Recreation officials say it's unsafe to operate the play area.

Jennifer Watkins' five year old son had been looking forward to going, and was disappointed in Thursday's closure.

"He was excited to come to the water park," said Watkins. "When we pulled up and he saw the water slide, he said, 'Oh mom, what if the bucket goes down and pours you with water?' Now he's a little bummed that we can't come."

The park will remain closed through Friday, said Kevin Abbate, Martin County Director of Parks and Recreation.

Friday night, workers will turn on heaters for the river ride and water slides, which will allow the park to open back up on Saturday.
