Protesters swarmed Phipps Park in Stuart Saturday to bring attention to the growing algae problem in the St. Lucie River.

Protestors brought locks with them to symbolize their desire to close the Stuart Lock and have water from Lake Okeechobee head south to the Everglades.

The Army Corps of Engineers say they must release the water through the locks to relieve the stress on the barriers surrounding the lake.
