PORT SALERNO, Fla. - Days after investigators said her 10-year-old daughter was lured and sexually assault at the Manatee Creek Park, the mother of the victim is speaking out hoping her emotional account can help draw the attention that will lead to an arrest.
"When she walked in the house, she was teary and red and she told me, 'Mommy, some guy at the park made me pull my pants down,'" said the victim's mother.
The identify of the family is being protected as it is policy not to reveal the names of sexual assault victims.
The Martin County Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday, the person who harmed the 10-year-old girl is still out in the community.
"She was petrified of sleeping in her own bed because she's afraid this guy is going to break into our house and get her again," said the victim's mother.
The mother of the girl investigators said was sexually assaulted, claims it has been the hardest week of her life. She realizes though the situation could have been a lot worse.
"There's not an Amber Alert for my kids. There's not a search party for my kids. There's a search party for him," said the victim's mother referring to who detectives are looking to arrest.
Two composite sketches were released late Wednesday evening. One picture is from the description of the man given by the 10-year-old victim. The other photo is from an adult witness.
The sheriff's office said it is common for people to describe a face differently. They said everything else about the descriptions match.
"We have some much corroborating testimony from other children that were playing that there's not a shred of doubt in our mind that this offense occurred," said Sheriff William Snyder of the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Snyder said his office is now working to get the sketches out into the community.
As parents watched their kids play at the very park where detectives said the assault happened, the sketches were on the minds of everyone.
The victim's mother said while she is hoping for an arrest, she keeps replaying the horrific day over and over again in her head.
"I'm questioning everything. Like, when is the right age to cut the apron strings and let your kids be kids?" questioned the victim's mother.
Even if the person allegedly responsible is caught, many in the Manatee Creek Community said everything has changed. The innocence of neighborhood kids playing is gone.
The victim's mother has a message for the person detectives say is responsible.
"Turn yourself in. I'm not looking for an eye for an eye. I'm not looking to do the same thing back to you. I'm looking for you to get the help that you need," said the victim's mother.
The person investigators are looking for is a white male with blond hair in his 20s wearing some sort of cast or brace on his hand.
The clothing description was the same as described by the victim and the independent adult witness, the sheriff's office says.
