Monica Lakind charged with taking drugs from the hospital where she worked, sheriff's office says

STUART, Fla. - A registered nurse has been arrested and charged with stealing drugs while working, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say that 48-year old Monica Lakind from West Palm Beach was seen removing medication from a hospital pharmaceutical dispensary without authorization and then leaving the building during her shift.

Security stopped the nurse outside of the Martin County hospital and called the sheriff’s office.

Investigators say they found vials of medication with inventory numbers belonging to the hospital after searching her vehicle.

Lakind has been  charged with theft and possession of certain drugs without prescriptions.

Lakind told deputies she has been a traveling nurse for 18-years but gave conflicting stories about where she lived.

She was arrested without incident and taken to the Martin County Jail.

Deputies say that Lakind was recently hired at the unnamed hospital.
