STUART, Fla. - Police on the Treasure Coast are looking for answers after a medical lab courier was shot and killed on the job.
Lescelles Russell was finishing his rounds Friday night at Quest Diagnostics when it happened. Stuart Police are not saying much about the investigation.
It happened in Quest Diagnostic's parking lot in the 900 block of Southeast Ocean Boulevard sometime after 8 p.m. Friday; however, no one is sure why it happened.
Russell worked at Quest Diagnostics for 21 years. As a lab courier his job was to help people getting their medical tests from their doctor's office to the medical lab. That all came to an end Friday night when Russell was found shot dead in his car in the parking lot.
"At this time, we have every available detective assigned to the case, working the case," explained Stuart Police Spokesman Officer Michael Pope. "They're working very diligently to try to get some justice for the victim and closure and answers for the family."
Quest Diagnostics said Russell had a good record and was "well liked" by employees. They added, "we are shocked by this tragic and horrific incident and our condolences go to the Russell family. Quest Diagnostics is cooperating with law enforcement authorities in their investigation and we look forward to a rapid and thorough resolution in this case."
Stuart Police say they are eager for anyone who knows anything about this homicide to come forward.
"Our main concern is resolving this case, bringing it to a conclusion so that the family can get some type of closure," explained Officer Pope.
A courier from another company said that he and other couriers are very concerned about their safety. He said Russell was a very friendly and hardworking person and everyone liked him.
