STUART, Fla. - A man wanted in the stabbing of a Stuart woman Tuesday afternoon has been arrested, said Christine Weiss, spokeswoman for the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrested 46-year-old Jeff Fletcher "as he was burglarizing a home on Hawthorne Street," according to the sheriff's office.
Fletcher was caught on the same street where the victim was stabbed multiple times and her car stolen, Weiss said.
Around 2 p.m. deputies responded to calls of a stabbing in the 3000 block of Southeast Hawthorne Street in Stuart.
Authorities said the suspect asked the victim for a ride, but when she declined, he stabbed her repeatedly. Fletcher fled with her vehicle, which was later recovered.
The victim was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Heart Institute in Fort Pierce where she was listed in stable condition Tuesday evening, Weiss said.
