STUART, Fla. - A man who police say was involved in several drive-by shootings in Stuart in the last three weeks was arrested overnight after a pursuit with police. He has been identified as 25-year-old Fidel Diaz of Port St. Lucie.
According to police, officers have responded to several drive-by shootings in the 900 block of S.E. Tarpon Avenue in the month of July. Officers responded to another shooting in the same area around 11:30 p.m. Monday.
At 2 a.m. Tuesday, officers say they located a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle tied to the earlier shootings. Officers attempted a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop, according to police.
They say the suspect ended up crashing and officers arrested Fidel Diaz after a short foot chase. they say a passenger in his car remains at large.
All of the shootings were into an occupied residence but no one was ever hit. Police recovered three firearms, including one that was reported stolen from Port St. Lucie.
Diaz was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of shooting a deadly missile, fleeing and eluding police, willful and reckless driving, and resisting officer without violence.
Diaz is being held at the Martin County Jail on a $126,150 bond.
