STUART, Fla. -- A Treasure Coast neighborhood is on the watch to keep their children safe.
Residents along SE Normandy Avenue in Stuart are learning their neighbor was arrested for peering into the windows of young children.
Deputies arrested 53-year-old Ervin Clair Voltz after they say he was caught looking into his neighbor’s 10- and 11-year-old kids’ bedroom window.
The Sheriff’s office says Voltz may have done this on several occasions.
In written statements, the two children detailed that they would see him when they were getting out of the shower and getting dressed. They said they would be naked, or partially nude when they’d look out the window and see his face pressed against the glass. They say he would run away when they would make eye contact.
Authorities say the children told their parents who notified the sheriff’s office.
“It’s encouraging to us that the children had a family situation where they felt comfortable to tell mom and dad,” Martin County Sheriff, William Snyder, said.
Deputies say evidence led them to believe he was looking into the window. They say they found weeds tracked into his home just like the ones under the children’s window.
Neighbors like Tammy Riley are concerned. She has two kids of her own.
“It just shows just because you look at someone and think you know someone you really don’t know what their hidden evils are,” Riley said.
Voltz is out of jail on bond. Meanwhile, the investigation continues into whether he had done this to anyone else.
“It could have been my home which I yea, I don’t know how I would have handled that,” Riley said.
WPTV did speak with the mother of the children who says she has moved the family for the safety of the kids.
Voltz does have a criminal background, but nothing related to the recent Voyeurism charges.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking any other potential victims to come forward.
