A father was arrested Thursday after police said he left his two small children in a car for several hours while in Stuart.
Witnesses called police around 3:45 p.m in reference to two kids left in a car.
Police came to the scene and found the kids, ages 4 and 5, inside a running car with no cold air blowing.
According to officials, the temperature inside car, 89 degrees, matched the temperature outside. The kids were sweaty and had soiled their clothes, police say.
The father, Alain Latortue, told police he was working on the fourth floor of the building and said he would keep checking on the kids.
The children were taken to a local hospital to be evaluated.
