A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 95 Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The  incident happened at 5:45 a.m. at  Mile Marker 89, near Hobe Sound.

Cedrick Wilcox Jr., 24, of Port St. Lucie was standing next to a stopped vehicle on the northbound I-95 paved shoulder when, for an undetermined reason, he  entered the outside travel lane and was struck by a 2001 Acura MDX traveling north on I-95.

According to officials, Wilcox had been a passenger in the stopped vehicle.

He was transported to St. Mary's Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Accura was being driven by 76-year-old Leonid Koltun and his passenger, 74-year-old Sofiya Gleyzer, both from Massachusetts.

The reason of the crash remains under investigation.
