Palm City's Leighton Park affected by high levels of bacteria

PALM CITY, Fla. - Warning signs will continue to be up at a Martin County park at least until Monday after tests have shown high levels of bacteria.

Palm City's Leighton Park is on the St. Lucie River by the old Palm City Bridge.

This is the second straight week samples have shown higher than normal levels of bacteria.

The health department says any people who come in contact with the water could get sick.

The Florida Department of Health tests the water quality every week at four different locations along the St. Lucie River. Those four places are Roosevelt Bridge, Sandspirit Park, the Stuart Sandbar and Leighton Park.

The Florida Department of Health also tests the water ever two weeks at eight different locations throughout Martin County.
