Palm City teen accused of detonating bombs outside home

PALM CITY, Fla. -- A 16-year-old Palm City boy is facing criminal charges for setting off six homemade bombs at the home of a friend of a girl he used to date, according to a Martin County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

On Saturday, deputies charged the teen with making/discharging a destructive device and criminal mischief over $1,000 for discharging homemade bombs.

While Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers does not customarily name juveniles accused of crimes, it does name some juveniles depending on the seriousness of the crime, their age, aggravating circumstances and other factors.

About 2:42 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to the 2500 block of Southwest Estella Terrace for a call about gunshots.

There they found several residents outside and damage to a mailbox and driveway.

A girl who lives at the home and is friends with a girl who used to date the boy saw his vehicle while the bombs were being discharged and gave deputies his address, the report states.

The teen and three friends purchased tinfoil and toilet bowl cleaner specifically to make the bombs and discharge them at the home, the report states.

No injuries were reported.
