Martin County Sheriff's Office makes arrest in Palm City double shooting

Shooter argued with victims over burglary

PALM CITY, Fla. - Princeton Padgett,31, has been arrested in connection with a Friday night shooting in Palm City that sent two men to the hospital, according to Christine Weiss, spokeswoman for the Martin County Sheriff's Office. One of the victims was shot in the stomach and was flown to an area hospital by LifeStar. The second victim was wounded in the leg and was taken by ground to a local hospital, Weiss said.

Padgett is charged with shooting 37-year-old Foster Wooten and his step-son Robert Collins outside the Wooten home on Ranchwood Street. The shooting happened shortly after 10 p.m. in the 4400 block of SW Ranchwood Street, Weiss said.

The victims were able to tell investigators that just after 10 p.m., Padgett went to the Wooten home to talk to Collins about a burglary that happened at Padgett's home.  The three men got into an altercation
and investigators say Padgett then went back to his car, got a gun, and shot Wooten and Collins as they tried to go back into their home.  Wooten was shot in the stomach and Collins was shot in the leg, said Weiss.

She said a second crime scene was set up around SW Jack James Drive. Deputies stopped Padgett a short time later in his car.  Padgett is being held at the Martin County Jail, said Weiss.
