Fatal vehicle crash on Martin Downs Boulevard in Palm City

An early morning fatal accident on Saturday morning claimed the life of a 27-year-old man in Palm City.

An emergency call came in to Martin County Sheriff's Office around 12:50am.

Two people driving by Martin Downs Boulevard at Mapp Road spotted a wrecked car resting on the sidewalk, pulled over to assist, and called 911.

Martin County Sheriff's Office Watch Commander Lt. Bill Dowdy was the first on the scene and attempted life saving maneuvers on Philip Wade Harvey, Jr of Stuart.

Despite efforts, the young man died a short time later.

MCSO Uniform Patrol and K-9 units began a search for a suspect vehicle.

Deputy Matt Fritchie found a black SUV with damage abandoned near Willoughby Boulevard in Stuart.

With assistance from Stuart Police Department, MCSO set up a secondary perimeter around the vehicle and located the man who the vehicle is registered to walking around.

The man denied being the driver and claimed he did not own the vehicle.

FHP has taken over the investigation.
