STUART, Fla. - Martin County Sheriffs Deputies arrested Cordy Walton Monday and charged him with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer among other things.
They say he has been previously arrested at least 50 times and is from Riviera Beach.
Investigators say Walton and another man rammed deputies with a stolen van near Crystal Lake Elementary.
The school was put on lockdown.
Walton was immediately arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment.
The other suspect remains on the run despite deputies using a helicopter and setting up a perimeter.
"I think by the time this is over we are going to realize they are responsible for several felony burglaries," Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said.
Snyder says a stolen television was found inside the van.
Parents were alerted to the elementary school being on lockdown by text and emails.
"I thought it was pretty scary but I knew they were safe because the school prepares for this," parent Susan Haines said.
The Sheriff says they will continue looking for the second suspect until he is found.
More charges are pending.
