MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. - Two bank robbery suspects, a male and female, are in custody after an unsuccessful attempt to flee from deputies.
Alfred Gray, 25, of Tennessee is charged with robbery and fleeing/eluding. Jamie Pinkerton, 37, of Tennessee is charged with robbery.
According to Martin County Sheriff's office both Gray and Pinkerton cooperated with detectives and provided information regarding the bank robbery in Martin County. They also provided information about their involvement in a Tennessee bank robbery in early December, according to detectives.
According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, the SunTrust branch at Kanner Crossings Shopping Center was robbed around 3:43 p.m.
The couple said they were returning to Tennessee from Fort Lauderdale when they ran out of money for gas and decided to rob a bank. Gray, who was out on bail on illegal drug charges and has previously served time in prison for bank robbery, entered the bank alone and gave the teller a note demanding money.
Someone at the bank gave a description of the getaway car and it was spotted by deputies a short time later.
Following a short pursuit the driver and passenger had an accident at US 1 and Kanner Highway.
They tried to continue but were stopped in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant at U.S. 1 and Johnson Road.
