Lock your car doors and bring your valuables inside.

That’s the reminder from Martin County Sheriff William Snyder after a rash of car burglaries overnight Wednesday in the Jensen Beach area.

So far, 22 reports have been filed from the Pinecrest Lakes and Holly Creek neighborhoods.

In each case, the burglars found the vehicles unlocked.

Cash, wallets, GPS systems, and in one instance a key fob were among the items stolen.

The sheriff calls these crimes of opportunity.

“Invariably it will be one person, maybe two, maybe juveniles out late at night or early in the morning creeping around feeling for car doors seeing if they can find something open," said Sheriff Snyder.

The sheriff says they do have some leads and are looking to see if there’s any surveillance video of the perpetrators.

These thefts come on top of 9 additional car burglaries in the Hobe Sound area over the weekend.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office will be placing reverse calls Wednesday night to residents in the neighborhoods impacted.
