STUART, Fla. - A man was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle during an alleged road-rage incident on the south Interstate 95 Kanner Highway off ramp in Stuart Tuesday afternoon, said Lt. Tim Frith, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol.
A woman, who had a child in her vehicle, dialed 911 and told authorities that her former boyfriend was trying to run her off Southwest Kanner Highway, said Christine Weiss, spokeswoman for the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
Weiss said the suspect rammed the woman's car at least once. He then got out of his car and jumped on the hood of the victim's car before falling off and being struck by another vehicle near the South Kanner Highway off ramp.
He was flown by LifeStar helicopter ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center around 3:31 p.m., said Chief Doug Killane, spokesman for Martin County Fire Rescue.
There is no word on the suspect's condition, Weiss said. However, she said the child was not injured in the incident.
The South Kanner off ramp and the section of SW Kanner Highway by I-95 were temporarily closed to allow LifeStar to land, Killane said.
FHP and the sheriff's office are investigating the incident, Weiss said. She said officials are working the case as an aggravated assault with road rage.
