MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. - Martin County is getting back into the tourism business.
Commissioners voted Tuesday morning to establish a new Martin County Office of Tourism.
It will operate under the direction of the county administrator.
Last September, commissioners terminated their contract with the convention and visitors bureau and since then, have relied on the Martin County Parks and Recreation Department to take over tourism and marketing.
Commissioners also agreed to draft an ordinance that would allow it to add another penny to the existing bed tax in the future.
That extra 330-thousand dollars it would generate would go towards promotion and beach maintenance among other things.
