Martin County deputies rescue injured pelican from high school pool area

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. - Martin County Sheriff's Office deputies have rescued an injured pelican from a local high school pool area Monday morning after it became lodged between a wall and a pool heater.

Deputies say Animal Service Officer Michele Thonney was able to maneuver the bird out of a very tight spot and into a secured area.

The pelican is currently unable to fly due to its injuries.

Deputies transported the pelican to Treasure Coast Wildlife Hospital for treatment.
