Martin County deputies investigating a body found near mangroves on Hutchinson Island

Discovered near House of Refuge

HUTCHINSON ISLAND, Fla. - MARTIN COUNTY — Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a man’s body found floating Monday in the Indian River Lagoon, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Christine Christofek.

They are canvassing the area for clues in the 300 block of MacArthur Boulevard on South Hutchison Island, where the body was found by boaters about 8:50 a.m., Christofek said.

The body was caught up in mangroves on the lagoon side across from the House of Refuge.

Detectives don’t know how long the “bloated,” clothed body was in the water or how the person died, Christofek said. They are waiting on autopsy results to identify the man and his age. Currently, no one is reported missing in the county.
