STUART, Fla. - An injured pelican is recovering after receiving some help from the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
Animal Services Supervisor Karen Kneubehl found the bird slumped over at the Stuart Causeway on Thursday.
It appeared he had something lodged in his throat and was having a difficult time breathing.
Kneubehl picked up the bird and took it to the Treasure Coast Wildlife Hospital where they were able to dislodge a large bony fish, which was caught deep in the bird's throat.
Once the fish was removed, the pelican caught his breath. Kneubehl then brought it back to the causeway and released it.
