In light of another mass shooting, Martin County deputies and firefighters suited up together for the first time on Thursday for an active shooter training drill.

The decision to train together was made after a different terrorist attack: the San Bernardino shooting.

During that attack, rescue waited for officers to bring out victims.

This new training is called "swift assisted victim extraction" where officers learn to enter a building containing an active shooter with firefighters.

This saves precious time to get to and treat victims,

Thursday's training was held at Jensen Beach High School and Principal Lori Vogel knows it's a matter of when, not if something happens.

This team of deputies and firefighters believe this training can make the difference.
