A Jensen Beach man allegedly held a woman in a choke hold for an hour to prevent her from calling Martin County deputies after he threw her into a wall, hit her and choked her during an argument, an arrest affidavit states.
John Thomas Rheaume, 46, of the 2200 block of Northeast Dixie Highway, was charged with domestic battery by strangulation and tampering with or harassing a victim, the affidavit states. He was being held Monday at the Martin County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bond.
The woman was able to run to a neighbor's house and call for help when she told Rheaume she needed to use the bathroom and he let go of her, the affidavit states.
The woman said Rheaume had taken her cell phone and car keys when the disturbance began, and when she left the house he left behind her with the phone, keys and her dog, the affidavit states. A police dog found Rheaume in some bushes nearby and he was arrested, the report states.
