JENSEN BEACH -- Jensen Beach High School football coach John Fey has been suspended by the school and has been relieved of his coaching duties.
"Essentially what we've got right now is he's suspended indefinitely," Jensen Beach principal Greg Laws said Tuesday night. "Coach (Tim) Caffey is the interim coach right now."
When asked if Fey had been fired, Laws responded, "It is a personnel issue. I can't give you any more than that."
It is unclear what events transpired that led to Fey's suspension and Fey did not respond to phone calls Tuesday night.
Fey, a Martin County High School graduate, just began his fourth year at Jensen Beach. He guided the team to a 13-19 record, including the program's first regional playoff appearance last year.
Jensen Beach opened the season with a 20-14 loss at Lake Worth last week.
Caffey, who never has been a high school head coach before, led the team through practice Tuesday and will coach the team against Forest Hill in the home opener Friday.
Jensen Beach athletic director R.J. Costello said Caffey will be the interim coach for the remainder of the school year.
"All I know is that I am the interim coach right now," said Caffey, who took over as Jensen Beach's offensive coordinator last season. "I don't know a whole lot more than that."
