JENSEN BEACH – Martin County sheriff's deputies are investigating vandalism and a burglary at Jensen Beach Elementary School that occurred late Tuesday night. Damage is estimated in the thousands.
Four teens are under arrest, according to the sheriff's office.
Burglary and fire alarms just before midnight called deputies, fire rescue and school employees to the building on 2525 N.E. Savannah Road, according to a sheriff's report.
They found thick smoke from fire extinguishers throughout the hallways, broken flower pots, vandalized desks and the school's Viking statue knocked to the ground.
Deputies also found a broken window on the south side of the school that appeared to be where the suspects entered by pulling a picnic table up to it, according to the report.
According to the sheriff's office, the four suspects are juveniles. Deputies plan to charge them with burglary and criminal mischief.
Three of the teens are former students, the fourth has never attended the school, the sheriff's office said.
