John Fey: Football coach resigns over inappropriate language

Also steps down as Dean of Students

There's a new football coach in charge at Jensen Beach High School after the Falcons previous coach resigned from his position.

Practice was run Wednesday afternoon with interim Coach Tim Caffey at the helm. This after John Fey, the coach for the past four years, announced he was stepping down immediately.

In a statement released by the Martin County School District, Fey said, "In an attempt to motivate our team to play with more mental and physical toughness, I used inappropriate language." The statement did not specify what words were said exactly.

Fey also stepped down as Dean of Students at the high school, but he will be retained to work in another capacity in the district.

School District Attorney Kim Sabol said, "Mr. Fey has not used inappropriate language within the classroom setting and has repeatedly been evaluated as 'highly effective' as an educator."

John Fey led Jensen Beach to its first regional playoff appearance last year.

Tim Caffey will remain the head coach for at least the rest of this year.

On the field, The Falcons lost to Lake Worth in their opener 20-14.  This week they host Forest Hill High School.
