HOBE SOUND, Fla. - A man was bitten, possibly by a shark, at the Hobe Sound Beach around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Residents who were at the beach heard the victim's friends say he was nipped by a shark. The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
Joseph Rush, a Hobe Sound resident who said he saw the victim, does not believe it was a shark that attacked. "It was only one bandage on the guy's toe," he said. "I've seen pictures of shark bites before and his toe probably would have been bitten off if it was a shark."
Marcia Lefco, another Hobe Sound resident, said the victim was able to walk, so the injury was not severe. "The two lifeguards on duty helped him. We heard one of the other guys with him say he was bit by a shark, so we walked up close to see what was going on."
