HOBE SOUND, Fla.-- A Hobe Sound barber is doing his part to help the community in a much bigger way than leaving clients with a stylish hairdo.
Ray Sterling owns Perfect Cut and Color Barber Shop at 8823 Bridge Rd. in Hobe Sound.
“Every single day I wake up, I drive here and I’m just excited because I know there’s going to be a story,” Sterling said. “You meet so many different people.”
Through many conversations with different clients, Sterling learned many have something in common.
“Everybody here that I’ve met in some way has had some experience with somebody who has had cancer,” Sterling said.
Now, he’s inviting anyone with cancer to come to his shop for a free haircut and style. “It’s on me,” said Sterling.
It’s the morale boost and helping hand that Sterling knows families need. “I’ll shave his head so his hair doesn’t have to fall off in patches.”
It’s also helping Sterling heal from the loss of his sister and his wife. Both lost their breast cancer battles.
“I just feel committed to give back since I have been a victim of the same thing.”
There are personal touches around his shop that remind him of his wife. “She picked out the colors and the décor.”
They’re the little things he sees each day that motivate him to keep helping families going through an all too familiar struggle.
Sterling says he takes walk-ins. You don’t have to make an appointment but you can call ahead at 772-626-7702
