Park dedicated to Army Staff Sgt. Justin Johnson in Hobe Sound's Banner Lake community

A special dedication was held in Martin County on Saturday for a soldier who sacrificed his life serving in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Justin Johnson was a Hobe Sound resident who died last year.

Yesterday, the county dedicated a park in his name in the Banner Lake community.

"This was a somber day but also a day to celebrate the life of Sergeant Johnson who lost his life last year in Afghanistan. He paid the ultimate sacrifice to make sure we have our democracy and our freedoms in this country," said Rep. Patrick Murphy.

Johnson's uncle, Walter Scott said, "The sacrifices that he and other fallen soldiers have made so that we can have this lifestyle that we have today."

Staff Sgt. Johnson was 25 years old.

He's survived by family members including a 5-year-old son.
