Deadly wrong-way crash shutsdown Fla. Turnpike SB at Martin Downs Blvd. in Stuart
The southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike have reopened at Martin Downs Blvd. in the Stuart area after a wrong-way deadly crash previously had lanes shut down.
38-year-old Hanh H. Khuc of Fort Pierce drove his 2008 Subaru Impreza northbound in the southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike in the early morning Wednesday.
It is unclear where he first entered the highway.
34-year-old Abdirizak Ibrahim Ali of Clarkston, Georgia was driving a Freightliner truck in the outside right travel lane when he noticed the headlights of Khuc's vehicle approaching him in his lane.
Ali attempted to swerve and avoid Khuc, but was unable.
Ali did not suffer any injuries.
There were two 911 calls notifying police of the wrong-way driver and an FHP trooper tried to intercept the vehicle but was too late.
After the collision the semi truck dragged the car approximately 500 feet and there was a significant amount of debris surrounding the area.
The accident occurred at mile marker 130.
