Woman brutally attacks puppy in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Witnesses told police they saw a woman brutally attacking a 3-month-old puppy Saturday.

Erin Michelle Vazquez, 24, of the 1800 block of 40th Avenue was charged with felony animal cruelty. She posted $1,000 bail Sunday at the Indian River County Jail.

The dog, named Boo, was being cared for at the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County. Police said the dog had an injured left rear leg.

Vazquez went to a neighbor's home late Saturday night and asked whether she wanted the dog, according to the affidavit. When the friend said she couldn't take the dog, Vazquez shook Boo by his neck, the report states. Vazquez took the dog out of the apartment and slammed it to the ground a couple of times before Boo fled and hid under a car, the witnesses told police.
