Three wounded in overnight shooting in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Three people were wounded in a shooting late Saturday in Vero Beach, the Indian River County Sheriff's Office tells NewsChannel 5.

The shooting happened at a birthday party shortly before 11:30 p.m. in the 900 block of 34th Avenue SW.

The homeowner and host of the party became concerned when they spotted a person who was not invited to the party displaying a firearm while dancing with other guests.

The homeowner decided to end the party and guests began to leave.

Several other subjects who were in the company of the person who had displayed the firearm became upset about the party ending.

Either three or four shots were heard from the area of the front yard while the uninvited subjects were leaving.

Three males who were attending the party, ages 17, 18, and 19, were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The party was to celebrate the birthday of the 17-year-old and the homeowner and host is reported to be his mother.

Detectives have identified several suspects, believed to be from St. Lucie County.

The investigation is ongoing as Indian River County investigators work with detectives from the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office.
