New app helps people find restaurants, hotels and things to do in the Vero Beach area

If you're headed to the Vero Beach area this weekend- there's an app for that.

The free smartphone app was launched Thursday and it's designed to help find everything you need when you visit.

Downtown Friday draws a huge crowd every month in Vero Beach. It's one of the many events listed on the new app by the Indian River Chamber of Commerce.

The free app is called "Vero Beach, Fellsmere, Sebastian, FL".  It has a variety of pages including a list of events which you can save to your personal calendar.

The app also has a list of places to eat separated by categories like fine dining or Mexican food.

"So you'll find every restaurant with turn by turn navigation, all the hotels, the pet friendly hotels which is very important to a lot of people, campgrounds, transportation", says Director of Tourism Allison McNeal.

It includes transportation options and coupons.

"I think it's very convenient whether you're a tourist or in town," says resident Sharie Buchanan.

Tourism officials think the app will attract more people to the area by showing them everything it has to offer on your phone.

"They live by the social media, they live by you know the mobile apps," says Tammy Adams with Main Street Vero Beach.

The chamber hopes to add more features like walking tours and audio or video clips about historical sites.
