Local thrift stores take recycling to new heights

The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River is turning Earth Day into "Earth Week".

From now until April 30th, its thrift stores are displaying creative ways to recycle clothing and household items including aprons made from linens, fashioned by its thrift stores' volunteers.

Those ingenious folks also created elegant clutch bags out of fabric placemats, and have transformed men's shirts into sophisticated-looking pillows.

The shelter has thrift stores in both Vero Beach and Sebastian.
