VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Two Indian River County men were arrested last week for allegedly punching a mentally-disabled homeless man, videotaping the incident, and then posting the video on Facebook.
According to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, two men reportedly told the victim they would pay him $20 if he allowed one of them to slap him while the other videotaped it.
Instead, the victim was punched in the face and knocked unconscious.
The video of the alleged incident was posted to one of the arrestee's Facebook page, and a concerned citizen alerted authorities.
Nicholas Marr and William Gregory were charged with aggravated abuse of a disabled adult.
Marr, accused of being the one to punch the homeless victim, is also charged with misdemeanor battery.
Marr would not comment on the incident.
Indian River County Sheriff Daryl Loar said this incident is a tragedy.
"We had the victim specifically evaluated, and found that his mental capacity was not the norm," said Sheriff Loar. "Therefore, these charges have been elevated to felonies."
Both men have bonded out of jail.
