Fatal crash in Vero Beach on State Road 60

VERO BEACH, Fla. - INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A Sebastian woman died in a car-truck collision at State Road 60 at 66th Avenue Thursday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Ashley N. Wilson, 27, was traveling in a Ford Focus north on 66th Avenue when she failed to stop at the flashing red light at State Road 60 about 3:45 a.m. Thursday. A tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on S.R. 60 at the time.

The small red car ended up under the tractor-trailer and became mangled and crushed. Debris littered the road from the intersection at 66th to where the truck stopped about 50 to 60 yards farther east, in front of the PetSmart store.

About 7 a.m., crews were finally able to lift the semi truck and pull the car out so the body could be removed.

The wreck closed all lanes of S.R. 60 for a few hours before westbound lanes could be reopened. The eastbound lanes reopened a couple of hours after that.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
